Office 2019 Deployment

Office 2019 Install w/ PDQ Deploy

Microsoft Office 2019 Deployment using PDQ Deploy is a breeze!

I’m assuming you have all of your environment variables ready to go but that you’re in need of the PDQ Deploy specifics.

  • PDQ Deploy (centralized server)
  • Microsoft Office 2019 Deployment Kit (configured & on a network share)

If you’d like to know more about either of the above assumptions, please let me know and I’d be glad to write it up for you.

Package building time

Select ‘File’ > ‘New Package’ from within PDQ Deploy.

In the pop-up screen, from the top-level ‘Properties’ Bucket, set your package “Name” (Office 2019 – x64 (suggestion))

Now, select “New Step” and “Install”.

Under the “Details” tab, you want to select the setup.exe file from your server share (where you placed your Office deployment kit).

Then proceed to “Parameters” to point to the ‘xml’ file.

/configure \\\\servername\\Microsoft\\Office\\ODT\\office19install.xml

Click ‘Save’.

Find the IP address of your test device (10.2.x.x or 192.168.x.x).

I recommend using the IP and not the DNS name. I’ve had more success and fewer errors – don’t ask me why – I have zero clue.

Select the package “Office 2019 – x 64” from the tree view. > Right Click it > Select Deploy Once

Type in the IP address of the target machine and select “Deploy Now”.

This process should take 5-15 minutes to deploy the package successfully in the background.

If you’re not using PDQ Deploy, all you have to do is setup your environment variables and run this command in an elevated command prompt.

"\\\\disk_or_share\\ODT\\setup.exe" /configure \\\\disk_or_share\\ODT\\office2019install.xml

It’ll run the setup.exe based on the instructions from the Office2019install.xml file. Aka., baby automation.
